How this website was created

I had started developing website prototypes with Dreamweaver in 2003, but switched to editing my HTML by hand. With CSS, I need to change only a single file if I want to make changes to the overall look-and-feel of my site. The color scheme is fairly neutral, so that the color photos pop out. The look is inspired by my love for black-and-white photography and the minimalist, yet functional design of my Apple computers. The brushed metal look of my picture frames was inspired by OS X as well, but developed from scratch in Photoshop. My favicon (the icon you see next to my URL in certain browsers) was also created in Photoshop; the logo contains my initials.

The images are 450x300 or 267x400 pixels in size, depending on orientation. I have programmed presets in Photoshop to help me create the images for the web. I include the sRGB ICC color profile into the images, as some browsers like Safari and Firefox 3.0 are ICC-aware and thus show accurate colors. The first version of my site went live on July 1, 2005. Recent changes include an exclusive focus on nature photography and the use of Google Analytics. After upgrading to CS3, Dreamweaver has become my HTML editor of choice. I use a fair amount of the Spry framework on my homepage which meant the end of my XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliance, but looks very professional.
